You have a couple good brands on your list but being cheap means being bad for your dog most of the time.
There in my opinion are some better options out there for your dog at a good price. According to dog food advisor, Diamond Naturals is one of the best foods you can get for the cheapest price.
Here is a good list to add to yours: http://newdogowners.com/top-5-value-dog-food-brands-healthiest-dog/
I think your definition of “inexpensive” does not mesh with the majority of the US.
Not a cheap one in the list . seriously those are some of the MOST EXPENSIVE brands in Canada
These aren’t even cheap though. My family can hardly keep the water &electricity on and pay the rent.
Then they shouldn’t have a dog. Not trying to be mean but it’s not fair for the animal when a nutritional diet can’t be afforded. There are other options if one has the time. With some research meals can be prepared using human food that are as good or better for the pet than anything bagged or canned from the store but it does take some dedication and time.
These ‘they shouldn’t have a dog’ comments are so wrong. I see them all over the place. I’ve been an animal rescue volunteer all my life and all I see is pain and suffering from abused and abandoned animals. Where I live people are lined up to dump their dogs at shelters. It’s better than dumping them on the highway I guess, but they do that too. The shelters and pounds are full. So are people who love their pets and just trying to get by in life ‘not fair’? These comments are so disturbing and arrogant. Please go visit a shelter in any city. 1.5 millions shelter animals are euthanized each year in the US. Is that fair enough for ya?
Have you seen the recall notices on many of these brands?
I’d agree with the notion that these are not inexpensive foods. Merrick? Did you even price these??
I can get most varieties of Victor foods, including their excellent Hi Pro Plus for considerably less than any of these. Quality foods, my dog loves them (and thrives) and never a recall.
Diamond Naturals and the very similar Kirkland Premium chicken or lamb formulas are quality foods that are truly affordable. Costco’s Nature’s Domain is grain free and the beef formula is not much over $1.00/pound. Nature’s Domain has ingredient lists very similar to Diamond Naturals grain-free.
Great post. Thanks for adding some actual affordable brands to the comments!
You clearly don’t know what cheap or budget means….
I’m not sure how 50 dollars for a 28lb bag of taste of the wild is considered cheap.
The Buffalo dog food is NOT cheap! $65.00 for 22# bag is nearly $3 a pound. That’s outrages! I have a 110 # dog . That 22# bag wouldn’t last long.
R u sure this isn’t the expensive dog food list . Dam
